If you listen to Joe Biden mutter about his s0-called “friendship” with Barack Obama, you’d think these two were soulmates or something. He paints this picture of him and Barack, holding hands and skipping off into the sunset together. But that couldn’t be farther from the truth. First off, you have to keep in mind what kind of politician Joe Biden was back in the day when he still had his wits about him. He was a loud-mouth, brash braggart, who was known for saying the wrong thing every time he opened his mouth. He was also known for being a dummy and an “exaggerator” of the truth (aka a liar), but Joe used all of that to his advantage. He turned himself into “Uncle Joe,” the average family guy, who rode the train to and from work every day, and spoke like a “regular American.” He made himself out to be an “outsider,” when in fact, he was one of the most “insider” politicians in the swamp and still is.
Back in the day, this persona really appealed to blue-collar Dem voters. so Joe had the “people” on his side, and because of that, he had amazing job security, and other politicians, who were much smarter, and high-brow, had to grin and bear it and accept Joe into their circle. And that’s pretty much exactly the position Obama was in when he picked Biden as his running mate. Team Obama needed a well-known, politically savvy white guy to stand in juxtaposition to this unknown, politically inexperienced black guy, and who better to pick than Uncle Joe? Nobody on earth could make Obama look smarter, than this gaffe machine, right?
But make no mistake, Obama never liked Joe. He simply tolerated him and humored him at times. But Obama thought Joe was an ignoramus, and although I don’t agree with him on a lot, I think Obama was spot-on with that assessment.
The New York Post reported on this “not-so-happy-bromance.”
Beneath the surface, this relationship has had very serious ups and downs over time, both personal and especially political. Their conception of each other has changed dramatically. They’ve known each other for 20 years and these are two men who come from very different worlds, have very different life experiences and very different experiences in Washington, and their presidencies as a result are turning out to be different in interesting ways.
Obama also reportedly once told his close advisor David Axelrod that “Joe Biden is a decent guy but man, that guy can just talk and talk. It’s an incredible thing to see.”
Elsewhere, the book claims Biden “rolled his eyes behind Obama’s back at his aloofness and glad-handing with fellow pols” and was surprised by his so-called “humorlessness.”
Obama, however, thought that Biden’s repeated gaffes in public would give their rivals “ammunition.”
[…]…after the Democrats suffered heavy losses in the 2010 midterm elections, Obama considered asking Hillary Clinton to be his running mate in 2012, according to the book — even though Obama denied that rumor publicly at the time.
Biden was reportedly “distraught” over the prospect of being replaced, the book says.
Then, in 2012, Biden was accused of “betrayal” for publicly saying they both supported gay marriage — despite Obama planning to make the revelation in an upcoming TV interview.
Biden’s move left Obama “pissed,” according to the book.
And that brings us to this latest move, which is such a classic backhanded slap, from an elite like Barry. He managed to call out Joe Biden for being a crazy old man, and he even used his name, during a recent speech. It was a brilliant attack, delivered like smoooooooth butter.
Here’s what Obama said: “We all know some folks in our lives who — we don’t wish them ill will. They say crazy stuff & we’re all like, ‘Well, you know, Uncle Joe, you know what happened to him.’ They’re part of the family but you don’t give them serious responsibilities.”
Uncle Joe is a curious choice of words since that’s been Biden’s nickname for decades.
Here’s the history of “Uncle Joe.”
Readers of the satirical online blog, The Onion may be accustomed to the moniker of the fictionalized Biden character known as “Diamond Joe” or “Uncle Joe.” The character created by The Onion’s editor Chad Nackers was based on President Biden, and it predates his time as President. Although Diamond Joe differs greatly from real-life Biden, the nickname gained much traction in popular online culture. In 2019, The Onion retired the character.

Here’s what people online are saying:
“What a slip! Whoopsies”
“Wow. He actually said this out loud?”
“They don’t care anymore! They know they can get away with anything”
“Has Michelle Obama’s 2024 campaign begun already?”
“Lmao uncle Joe!”
“Wow, Obama said the bad part out loud”
“He either is planning to dump Joe, or he’s mocking the American people, or maybe both”
“They’ve known all along that they installed a crazy, demented old man into the white house. disgusting”
“Freudian slip!”
Nope, I don’t think this was a “slip.” I think this was a very purposeful line, that was written with care, and repeated for a reason. Obama is signaling to everyone that it’s okay now to talk about Biden’s failing mental health.
It’s been off limits for some time, and Obama let Joe take his lame “victory shuffle” after midterms, even though they actually did lose big. But now, it’s time to get back to business, and the last thing Obama or anybody on the left wants is CRAZY Uncle Joe, as the “face” of the party.
It’s time to move on, and they can’t do that, with this old buffoon, dragging them all down.
