I live in Michigan and am familiar with Belle Isle Park in Detroit. Belle Isle is a 982-acre island park in Detroit, Michigan, developed in the late 19th century. In 1905, entrepreneur Morris Wolff bought the old Beller’s Garden saloon just east of the Belle Isle Bridge and built an amusement park around it. It’s fallen into disrepair and has been shutdown and reopened many times over the years. They’re always trying to make a “comeback,” so when they announced a fun new giant slide, many people got excited and headed to the park… boy, was that a mistake.
But the slide ended up being so dangerous, that it was shutdown just 5 hours after it opened.
MLive reported that a grand reopening for one of Michigan’s most famous slides was swiftly followed by its indefinite closure. The giant slide on Detroit’s Belle Isle was closed Friday afternoon — about five hours after it was reopened — officials from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources announced in a statement on the Belle Isle Park Facebook page.
“We are going to be making some adjustments to the speed that we have seen users coming down today,” officials said. “Hopefully after our small adjustment we will be back up and running and the slide will be slower for more enjoyment.”
My question is: did ANYBODY try this out before opening it up to the public????

Here’s what people online are saying:
“This ride is for Gen X ONLY lol”
“my generation as kids would have turned it into a game on who could get the most Air and the parents would place bets”
“Bro the slide got speed bumps and you got no breaks”
“This ride is called broke back mountain”
“Chiropractors standing at the end handing out business cards “
“These New kids ain’t ready for this. My day we walked back up with a broke tailbone.”
“This slide is named “Spinal Compression “……..”
“in the 80’s there would of been a line down the street”
“My back hurts just watching this! Plus how hot is that metal right now!”
Good lord. I’m GenX, and this thing gives me nightmares. I dunno, maybe a few decades ago I’d have thought this was “fun,” but not anymore.
I think Belle Isle should brace for some lawsuits because some of those people look like they got bounced around pretty bad all the way down.
