I saw this video, and I had to share it with you. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing, and I am not even afraid of heights — at least I don’t think I am. But watching this, made my knees go weak. You’re about to see a high dive that will literally blow you away. This is Rick Charls, and he’s a former American high diver who held the world record for the highest dive of 172 feet a long time ago. This event I’m about to show you took place back in 1983, in San Diego. There were 5 world-record-setting dives on that day, and Rick’s was one of the best. Later, others would dive from higher points — one guy dove from 174 feet, but he sustained injuries and couldn’t get out of the pool without help.
In 2015 Laso Schaller dove from 192 feet — he was wearing protective clothing and a helmet, and ended up with several injuries and had to be pulled from the water. But even so, he holds the Guinness World Record for the “Highest dive” from a high diving board at this time.
But this 1983 event was truly amazing, and this dive from Rick will leave you breathless — such remarkable athleticism.
I still can’t believe he did that so gracefully, and in a speedo to boot. And I love how he just hoped right out of the water like he had just jumped in off a regular diving board.
