“It just doesn’t feel like it’s appropriate for us to be doing, when in a pluralistic society we want to be inclusive and representative,” Wegleitner stated. “At the end of the day, I think it’s divisive.”
Wegleitner argues that there’s an inconsistency during which space governmental our bodies recite the pledge at the start of conferences. She says that whereas municipalities equivalent to Fitchburg, Sun Prairie and Verona participate in reciting the pledge, others equivalent to Madison and Waunakee don’t.
Board member Tim Rockwell is against Wegleitner’s proposal and argued that praying firstly of conferences makes the board extra inclusive.
“This is all in the same city that is home to the Freedom From Religion Foundation,” stated Rockwell, who cited that greater than 45% of the county is spiritual.
Rockwell added that the county’s spiritual variety ought to be “celebrated and not squashed.”
The remaining determination on the proposal can be made on April 5.
